Title of Research
Biogeochemistry of trace elements in the atmosphere and oceans.
Description of Research Area

Samples of aerosols, rainfall, and seawater that were collected from research cruises over the last 7 years have been archived for analysis of the speciation and solubility of bioactive trace elements. The research cruises include NSF-supported projects associated with the international CLIVAR and GEOTRACES programs. The analysis of these samples will inform us on the input and cycling of these essential trace elements in the upper ocean. The samples will be processed (extracted) in a trace-metal clean laboratory and analyzed using high resolution ICP-MS.

Special Research & Career Skills

The postdoc will gain experience working in a clean-lab environment and using state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation. The postdoc will improve their data interpretation and writing skills, and will be encouraged to apply for external grant support. An IDP for the postdoc will be developed.
