Three-part Grants Workshop for Postdoctoral Scholars 

"The Ins and Outs"

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and the Office of Graduate Fellowships and Awards are teaming together to sponsor a three-part grants workshop during which both postdoctoral scholars and doctoral students will have the opportunity to be provided 1) an overview of potential mechanisms that would be suitable for their type of research, 2) have an opportunity to get their specific aims critiqued and have guidance through all the form pages and supplemental material, and 3) participate in a mock study section by experts in their field and ability to discuss the strengths and pitfalls with FSU doctoral and postdoctoral scholars that have successfully acquired that mechanism. The mock study section will identify top proposals and those individuals will be supported by an intramural award administered by FSU following submission of their proposal to a federal agency or private foundation. Postdoctoral submissions will be judged by the mock study section to receive up to $1500 of support. Participants must complete all three workshops to be eligible for the intramural award.

 

Three-part Grants Workshop 

The OPDA has partnered with OGFA and the Office of Research to host three interconnected workshops to assist postdoctoral scholars and graduate trainees with the preparation of extramural applications for grants.  Scholars and trainees that participate in all three sessions and submit their proposal to an extramural agency will be eligible to receive an intramural grant award to apply for training-related expenses of their research project ($750 graduate trainees, $1,000 postdoctoral scholars).  These funds were graciously contributed by the VP for Research Office.

PART I = March 19, 2021; 1 - 3:30 pm.  Experienced faculty that have served on grant review panels will present the latest criteria and strategies for a number of different agencies in a variety of fields and disciplines.  Also on hand will be postdocs and PhD students that have been awarded grants to serve as peer mentors in the process of you deciding and preparing your application.  

or PART I = March 22, 2021; 1 - 3:30 pm.  

PART II = June 16 or 23, 2021;  1 - 3 pm.  Your prepared Specific Aims page will be critiqued by a panel of experts in your field. This is the heart of every successful grant proposal.  You will meet in peer writing groups moderated by a faculty member to discuss the feedback on your aims.  Then you will meet with successful FSU grant holders on campus (USDA, F32 NRSA, F31 NRSA, R36 NIDA, NSF GRFP, and Ford Foundation) that will give you helpful guidance and encouragement in completing your full applicaton.  

PART III = Sept., 29 or Oct. 6, 2021;  12 - 3 pm. Sign up for a time block to have your full grant proposal critiqued by a mock study section of experts in your field. Then take your reviews, modify your full proposal and submit to your targeted agency to receive your intramural award from FSU. You do not have to be awarded your proposed grant to received the intramural support, but you must complete all three workshop dates and be responsive to the available experts!
